Keyes Art Mile is warming up for another unforgettable evening of vibrant local art, delicious food, music, and exclusive experiences hosted on Thursday, 7 November 2024. The event centres around the iconic Jacaranda season, which sees Gauteng’s streets transformed into shades of purple at the end of October annually.
The winning facade in the Jacaranda Art Challenge will be unveiled as the centrepiece of the event. Local artists were invited to submit Jacaranda-themed artwork celebrating the spirit of Johannesburg’s visual aesthetic for a chance to win a cash prize of R20,000. The winning piece will be used to transform the Keyes Art Mile facade into a tribute to the city’s annual purple blossoms. It will be presented as a modular magnetic mural on the building, adding a breathtaking new addition to the urban landscape for visitors and locals to enjoy.
Attendees will also have the chance to experience a series of exceptional art exhibitions that draw on young and established talent from across the continent.
The AFRICA SALON will be held inside Gallery 1. The exhibition, curated by Madlozi Contemporary Art Gallery, echoes the critical themes, values and pioneering intervention to reframe Africa in our own words and images set in motion by AFRICA REMIX – the standout international exhibition curated by Simon Njami in 2004. The AFRICA SALON is a showcase of visual art and creative expression by new and established artists from across the continent that features participating artists from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and the DRC.
Guests will also be able to enjoy Pieces of Our Dream in The Atrium. This collaboration between Ojiji and the students of the Little Artists School highlights the aspirations of young, emerging talent as they journey through the world of art. The exhibition will present their work alongside that of their mentors, offering a unique dialogue between generations.
Samurai Farai, a contemporary artist who merges his Zimbabwean and Afrikaans roots in his bold colourful signature pieces, will present a solo exhibition at Origin Art.
Guests can enjoy a culinary adventure with dining options from the Keyes Art Mile restaurants, which offer a range of local favourites.
Keyes Art Night and the Jacaranda Art Challenge are both sponsored by American Express, and are the result of a longstanding partnership. American Express cardholders will enjoy additional benefits at the event. The first 100 cardholders to register will gain access to a VIP area at the exclusive MESH Club, where they’ll be treated to gourmet canapés and a welcome cocktail, adding additional prestige to an already vibrant evening.
This incredible display of art and culture will be the hallmark of another Keyes Art Night, sponsored by American Express, making it the must-attend event of the season. Whether you’re a long-time lover of Johannesburg’s Jacaranda season or a first-time visitor to the Keyes Art Mile, the event promises to immerse you in the city’s creativity and energy.
