On 5 September 2024, Keyes Art Mile will once again host Keyes Art Night. This event will feature vibrant art, insightful discussions, and groundbreaking exhibitions, coinciding with ArtJoburg – the city’s highly anticipated annual art week. Keyes Art Night has become a significant event in Johannesburg’s cultural calendar, attracting diverse audiences eager to engage with contemporary art and ideas. This month’s edition will include a variety of exhibitions, performances, and talks that explore pressing issues through the lens of art and architecture.

Highlights include:

• Architecturesa journal launch: Be among the first to explore the newly rebranded Architecturesa journal, which reimagines the role of architecture in shaping our cultural narratives. Led by Dr Sechaba Maape and featuring influential voices from the industry, this launch will offer a thought-provoking dialogue on the evolving cultural landscape of architecture.
• Athi-Patra Ruga’s Solo Exhibition: Amadoda on the Verge… (1835 – 2025): Step into the world of Athi-Patra Ruga at BKhz Gallery. His solo exhibition reexamines South African colonial history, using powerful visuals to challenge traditional representations of Black masculinity and explore complex narratives of identity and resistance.
• NON-FORMS: The Geometry of Imagination: Hosted at Gallery 1, this group exhibition showcases works that defy traditional notions of form. It invites viewers to explore the abstract dimensions of imagination through pieces by celebrated artists like Erik Laubscher and Joan Miró.
• Nostalgia and Place: A Group Exhibition: Origin Art presents a collection of works that delve into the emotional connections between memory, place, and identity. This exhibition features artists who reflect on South Africa’s heritage and how nostalgia shapes our sense of belonging.

Keyes Art Mile will transform into the city’s ultimate afterparty destination during ArtJoburg. After exploring the fair, unwind at Keyes Art Night with live performances, DJ sets, and a vibrant atmosphere capturing Johannesburg’s creative spirit. Enjoy a Johnny Walker Blonde tasting and welcome drinks, followed by a performance by Kgaugelo Lekalakala in The Atrium, and dance the night away to DJ Sumthin Brown and an incredible lineup of DJs at Mix Bar.
