For more than three decades, Teresa Lizamore has played a defining role in shaping the South African art landscape as a gallerist, curator and committed advocate for artists. Where Time Has Gathered offers an intimate perspective on this enduring engagement through a considered selection of works drawn from her personal collection, assembled over 35 years.
Lizamore’s influence extends across both public and private spheres. She founded Lizamore Gallery in 2000 and, in recent years, has activated the historic Rosebank Fire Station as a dynamic exhibition space. Alongside this, she has served as the long-standing curator of the FirstRand art collection and led the development of Sasol’s corporate collection for over two decades. Her discerning eye and sustained support have contributed to the recognition and growth of many of the country’s leading artists.
This exhibition brings together works by significant South African practitioners, including Penny Siopis, Judith Mason, Diane Victor, Colbert Mashile, Banele Khoza, Walter Oltmann and Louis Olivier. Spanning drawing, printmaking and sculpture, the selection reflects both early acquisitions from formative exhibitions and works developed through longstanding relationships.
Rather than a conventional retrospective, Where Time Has Gathered traces a layered narrative of time, intuition and connection. It reflects the relationships and decisions that have shaped a lifelong engagement with art, offering a rare glimpse into the personal dimension behind a public legacy.
