Palimpsest is an exhibition anchored by a new collaborative body of work by Michael Meyersfeld and Stompie Selibe, presented in Lizamore’s Sunken Room. Working in close dialogue, the artists explore layering, mark-making and visual transformation, developing each work through shared process and exchange.
The exhibition extends across the gallery with three solo presentations by Lien Botha, Nellien Brewer and Jacki McInnes, shown in the Sun Room, Fish Bowl and Upstairs Landing. While distinct in approach, each artist engages with the exhibition’s central concerns, offering individual interpretations of the shared theme.
The title Palimpsest refers to a surface that has been reused, yet still carries visible traces of what came before. In this exhibition, mediums, lenses, washes and sound intersect and unsettle one another, while continuing to reveal their origins. The resulting body of work occupies the spaces between disciplines, challenging fixed definitions and opening up new ways of seeing, hearing and feeling.
