Motion and Expression | The Space In Between

On show until 09/06/2025

Origin Art, Keyes Art Mile, Rosebank, Johannesburg

Step into an immersive experience where skateboarding and art collide, brought to life through custom skateboard decks and a vibrant celebration of street culture. This exhibition features works by renowned artists such as Lusanda Ndita, Maja Maljević, Masonwabe Ntloko and Matthew Blackburn and many more, alongside dynamic pieces of graffiti, live painting sessions, and street-inspired artworks.

The exhibition also showcases thought-provoking pieces like ‘Cosmic Paradise where God is Ganstah’ by Lindokuhle Tshabalala, ‘Life on Earth is Long’ by Robyn Field, and ‘Staying In’ by Leigh le Roux.

Each work reflects the unique perspectives and creativity of these artists, exploring themes of identity, culture, and the profound connections between art, spirituality, and personal experiences.

Visitors can expect to engage with a multi-sensory experience where skateboarding is elevated to an art form. The custom skateboard decks act as canvases, each one a vibrant testament to the energy, movement, and subversive spirit of street culture. As you explore, you’ll witness the transformation of familiar skateboards into powerful visual statements, reflecting both the rebellious nature and the artistic potential of skateboarding.

Graffiti works, live painting, and interactive installations will further immerse visitors into a world where art and street culture converge, offering a fresh perspective on how these two worlds shape and influence each other.

Whether you’re an art enthusiast, a skateboarding fan, or someone who simply appreciates creative expression, this exhibition is a celebration of freedom, individuality, and the unfiltered power of artistic collaboration.

This Art Night, you can expect dynamic activations, including a special tagging installation with Miko Douglas, T-shirts that capture the bold spirit of the show, and immersive visuals that bring the street to the gallery. This is street culture in motion – collaborative, expressive, and unapologetically alive.
