Forward Against All Odds is a personal reflection on a year in the life of Lebo M – one of South Africa’s most celebrated musical voices. This exhibition is not just about looking back, but about how to keep moving forward, even through loss, change, and challenge.

At its heart is a collection of powerful photographs. Some capture big public moments like his 60th birthday, global stages, and work in the studio. Others show quiet, more personal scenes: family gatherings, travel, moments of stillness. Together, they reveal the man behind the music. Alongside the images are words from Lebo M’s upcoming autobiography, shared through selected readings. 

These images offer honest insights into his creative, spiritual and personal journey.

A short film in the space traces the past year’s highs and lows, exploring what it means to stay true to your purpose through change. The final section turns to the future, offering a glimpse of what’s next: a live show in Cape Town, a European tour with Hans Zimmer, a tribute to Joseph Shabalala, and the release of his autobiography.

This exhibition is about more than one year or one artist. It’s about resilience, legacy, and the quiet strength it takes to keep going. 

It’s a celebration, and also a reminder that moving forward is its own kind of triumph.
