Concrete Memory

The Annex, Keyes Art Mile, Rosebank, Johannesburg

Concrete Memory is an immersive, interactive installation by artist Cameron-Lee Oliver, taking over the Annex space for the duration of the exhibition. This dynamic piece invites visitors to directly engage with its evolving form, encouraging reflection on the intersection of memory, space, and identity.

An extension of Oliver’s previous work, including Gold Thief City, Concrete Memory explores the urban landscape as a multi-layered, living organism, where history, culture, and personal experiences intersect and reshape the environment. The installation highlights how cities are constantly redefined by the people who inhabit them, their stories, and the traces they leave behind.

Visitors are invited to contribute their own memories, thoughts, and experiences, becoming part of a collective narrative that reflects the diversity of urban life. As the artwork evolves through this participation, it demonstrates how individual and shared histories intertwine, creating an ever-changing memory of the city.In collaboration with Design A Sign and Keyes Art Mile, Concrete Memory offers an immersive exploration of the relationship between space and human experience, encouraging reflection on how personal and collective histories shape the cities we inhabit.
