Beyond Space and Time

Lizamore on Keyes, 29 Keyes Avenue, Rosebank, Johannesburg

On show at Lizamore is a jewellery and sculpture exhibition, opening with a special performance at 6pm by Kai–Anne Marie. She will present her sculptural hats, which exist at the intersection of costume, sculpture, and wearable landscape. The exhibition features three artists whose work explores history, culture, and the human relationship with nature through both wearable and sculptural forms.

TROPHIFICATION: THE MASTER’S PATHOLOGY
Dr Farieda Nazier is a multimodal artist, academic, and activist whose Afro-feminist practice interrogates the legacies of colonialism and apartheid. Her work bridges creative practice, research, and pedagogy, challenging traditional museum narratives and envisioning spaces of critical consciousness. Nazier has exhibited and curated widely, including at the Apartheid Museum, the Castle of Good Hope, Galerie Handwerk, and the Nirox Foundation. Her contributions to decolonial and feminist discourse make her a pivotal figure in socially engaged contemporary art.

MASTERING DISASTER – NATURE AND FICTION
Berlin-based jewellery artist, photographer, and social anthropologist Martina Dempf investigates the cultural histories of the human body, ancient craft, and metaphysical protection. Her exhibition, Mastering Disaster – Nature and Fiction, explores humanity’s ongoing desire to control natural forces, translating these concerns into intricate jewellery, pendants, rings, and sculptural objects. Drawing on ancient and modern techniques, Dempf creates pieces that invite tactile engagement, connecting the viewer to a continuum of artisan knowledge and cultural memory.

Sculptural Hats
Kai-Anne Marie presents her sculptural hats, which sit at the intersection of costume, sculpture, and wearable landscape. Each piece is inspired by memory, ritual, mythology, and the natural world, forming small, self-contained wearable worlds. Her line, House of Faux-Lagé, blends whimsy and craftsmanship, producing floral and fantastical designs that charm, surprise, and delight viewers. Marie, a Johannesburg-based artist, poet, and podcaster, draws on theatre, literature, and music to create her unique visual language.Beyond Space and Time invites visitors to explore contemporary jewellery and sculptural art as lenses into history, culture, and imagination, offering both aesthetic wonder and critical reflection.
