SUMMARY:Architectural Narratives: An exhibition and panel discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday 24 August 2024 at 10am at Keyes Art Mile for a panel discussion focused on the architecture exhibition “Narratives of Migration and Reclamation”\, currently on display at Keyes Art Mile.  \nOur panellists include Kgaugelo Lekalakala\, a young architect and artist; Gugulethu Mthembu\, a practising architect and gender activist; Kate Otten\, an architect known for creating nurturing spaces; and Gloria Pavita\, a storyteller and spatial practitioner. The discussion will be moderated by Ngillan Faal\, Unit 7 Lead and Programme Convenor for Making at the Graduate School of Architecture\, University of Johannesburg. \nAbout Narratives of Migration and Reclamation \nThis exhibition draws inspiration from the Biennale Architettura 2023\, “The Laboratory of the Future\,” curated by Lesley Lokko. It showcases the inspiring and transformative potential of architecture through the perspective of female African architects. The works employ a variety of mediums to explore migration\, displacement\, and socio-cultural impacts on women. \nThe exhibition includes Kate Otten’s exploration of mining’s impact on migration\, Kgaugelo Lekalakala’s critique of the female body’s navigation through fragmented landscapes\, Gugulethu Mthembu’s reimagining of the folklore of Aicha Qandisha\, and Gloria Pavita’s intimate narrative on soil as a medium of care and reclamation. Each piece offers a unique and captivating perspective on the intersection of architecture and women’s experiences. \nThe exhibition closes on 24 August 2024. \nEvent details: \nDate: 24 August 2024 \nTime: 10am \nVenue: Keyes Art Mile\, 21 Keyes Avenue\, Rosebank\, Johannesburg \nThis panel discussion is hosted by Keyes Art Mile\, IQOQO\, GIFA and SAIA. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in thought-provoking discussions on migration\, displacement\, and the socio-cultural impacts on women in architecture. We look forward to seeing you there! \nJoin us for a glass of wine at Origin Art in the Keyes Art Mile courtesy of Women in Wine after the panel. \nAccredited for 0.2 CPD points Cat 1 by GIFA.
