Dance, eat and drink just like they do in Cuba as the spirit of Cuba hits Jozi this 1st Thursday when Little Havana takes over Keyes Art Mile, Rosebank in Johannesburg on First Thursday (1st November).
The event, hosted by Havana Club 7 Rum shares an evening of Cuban culture and customs and everyone is invited. Little Havana will pop-up on Keyes Avenue for one night only, where Havana Club rum, often used in much loved cocktails, will be the catalyst in bringing some big names in entertainment, Cuban cars, drinks and food to Jozi.
Hitch a ride in one of the vintage Cuban cars driving around, or find your way from one of the supporting venues: Saigon Suzy, a Street Bar Named Desire, Botlon Road Collection and Sin+Tax Bar all situated at Park Corner Rosebank and of course on the night at Mix Bar by Mesh Club and Milk Bar – where you can experience Tasting, Feeling, Seeing and Hearing authentic Cuba (don’t forget to grab a Cuban passport).
Experience the heat of Cuba in the heart of Jozi, as you salsa along the route, play a game of dominos, indulge in authentic Cuban inspired cigars and nibble on Cuban treats, all under a summer night sky.
Tropical Buena Vista styled décor juxtaposed against painted facades will echo the tropical heat, with sounds of South Africa’s DJ Kenzhero, one of SA’s most influential DJs as the headline act.
SA’s only authentic 10 piece Cuban band: En Fuego, who have shared the stage with some of world’s all-star musicians including: James Brown, Incognito, Hugh Masekela and Judith Sephuma will get your Cuban dance moves going.
Joined on the decks by Cape Town’s NV Funk and DJ Thabo who will play late into the night and of course the most popular nectar to come from the region, one of Cuba’s greatest exports – Havana Club 7 dark sipping rum.
Cuba has a long history of holding a unique identity of vibrant colours, street parties with great food, great drinks and exceptional music. The nature of Cuban culture has always been about celebration, adventure, enjoyment, colour and beauty, which is exactly what this one night experience is all about.
Put your best foot forward, throw on your beads, fedora and dancing shoes because Little Havana is coming to First Thursdays.
Just one word of caution: Take inspiration from the heart and soul of vintage Cuba, by wearing sliders espadrilles or sneakers. Little Havana’s cobbled streets are not made for heals. Make sure you the event in comfort.
